Marseille hosts a museum attached to the northern margin of the Mediterranean, open to the winds of ideas, mobilizing the artistic expressions of the two margins of the Mediterranean.Between the sky and the water, at the entrance of the Old Port of Marseille, the MuCEM Museum of the Civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean, of the architect Rudy Ricciotti, is by its very situation, the great project for the Mediterranean, whose landscape offers now a new image and it becomes a meeting point between both banks.Never before had a museum been dedicated to the cultures of the Mediterranean, even though they were so prolific from the point of view of History and Civilizations. Opened in 2013, the year that Marseille was the European Capital of Culture. It should be noted that the MuCEM has been possible thanks to the institutional collaboration of the State, the municipality of Marseille, the department of Bocas del Ródano and the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. It represents the first and authentic transfer of a national museum to a large regional capital. The collections, consisting of nearly one million works, objects and documents, have been entirely taken to Marseille.
